in Cagayan de Oro City
Urban
pest elimination in food establishments, and urban and agricultural areas here
will be tackled in time for the Urban Pest Management And Food Safety & Quality Systems Annual Conference-Exhibition on September 27-29, 2013 at the SM
City in Cagayan de Oro City.
Roque
Tibor, assistant director of the National Committee on Urban Pest Control
[NCUPC] said the conference-exhibition is one of the highlights of the 17th
National Urban Pest Control Week from September 23-29 by virtue of Presidential
Proclamation 990 & 2063.
Tibor
said urban pest elimination formed part of the Food Safety & Quality
Systems, Auditing, Good Manufacturing Practices, Waste Recycling & Integrated
Pest Control, And Green Management in food establishments, and in urban and
agricultural areas. He said food establishments are required by laws to comply
with good manufacturing and sanitation practices.
Tibor
said many establishments are asking the NCUPC to conduct seminars on effective urban
pest management that is designed for food establishments and offices.
Tibor
said NCUPC would like to address the volumes of wastes being generated by
companies as these wastes are serving as their food, hiding places and breeding
media for urban pests.
NCUPC
is also promoting recycling as part of sanitation and good manufacturing
practices. Organic and solid wastes can be recycled or reused and become useful
instead, Tibor said.
Meanwhile,
Tibor expressed disgust over the lack of concern on the part of Department of
Health [DOH] on rodent elimination. Tibor said the NCUPC is alarmed by the
widespread multiplication of rats and mice in the face of the DOH's
pronouncement that it has no budget for rodent.
